Normal Rockwell and Maui, Hawaii

Did you know that Norman Rockwell, the artist famed for his depictions of everyday Americana has but a single Hawaiian-themed masterpiece to his credit? It was created in 1956 and bears the name "The Thing to do with Life is Live It!" The painting recently sold for $1.625 million through a Christie's auction.

How magnificent that such a level-headed eye that clearly recognized the beauty in everyday simplicity should choose our rare and unique land as inspiration for one of his works.

I can only wonder what he might have created had he come to Maui in today's age and spent a little time in our little town of Haiku. Would he be drawn to the cute storefronts? The horses? The gulches? The tropical greenery? A seaside cliff? Would he sit somewhere on Giggle Hill and listen for the sounds of children's laughter drifting on the wind? I can almost picture the painting of a mischievous, shirtless little boy antagonizing a gecko that was unfortunate enough to get caught.

That's exactly the kind of life that Haiku offers, even in 2015. There's no pretentiousness. Everyone knows everyone else. You can walk to the post office and from there, walk directly to the grocery store.

If this kind of lifestyle appeals to you, give me a call. I'm not so great at painting, but I will be happy to show you a unique octagon home beautifully nestled in Haiku's evergreen setting. You can see the home at http://www.29DoorOfFaithRoad.com.
