Forever in our Favor



Y'know, oceanfront living is quite unlike any other. We tend to live according to playing conditions rather than what the clock might dictate.

For the past week, we've been lucky in the area of prevailing tradewinds. That means that we can simply walk out the back door, grab our windsurfing equipment out of the lanai closet, and the odds are forever in our favor.

The weekend of July 4th, we'll be visiting some friends who live Upcountry. There's usually a fireworks show or two down in the Wailea / Makena beach area, and we'll be able to catch those beauties from our own firepit, probably huddled up in light blankets, nursing a glass or two of wine.

Tonight, though, we're just going to take advantage of the slower island lifestyle and catch the Gilbert & Sullivan show at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. The Mikado is being performed by the Hawaii Opera Theater and the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra.

Okay, so we have to live by the clock for the last part, but at such little cost. Life at Sugar Cove really is as sweet as they say.

I'll Never Tell

Yesterday was one of the most beautiful days ever on the North Shore. 

The conditions were just right for windsurfing, so we figured that Ho'okipa would be hopping with activity. We took a little 10-minute drive to go see all the activity. It was incredible.


As is usually the case, the windsurfers were skimming right and left at the west end while the longboarders patiently waited for the next big wave at the east end. The park was full, the beach not as much so. I guess everyone was giving the lone turtle its space. The clifftop had its usual share of tourists watching in awe the athleticism below.

While that was fun, it was even nicer to come back home and get our own gear out. See, here at Sugar Cove, we're in a residential area that's a little hidden from the main path, so we essentially have the ocean to ourselves...40 steps from our lanai. Life is indeed sweeter here.


Oh! I almost forgot! With the Maui Film Festival going on, we've had more celebrities on the island than usual. If I told which star I sat and talked story with yesterday - just sitting there on the beach watching the lone windsurfer while we took our time to get ready to go out ourselves - nobody would ever believe me. Besides, I agreed to keep his/her presence a secret. Everyone deserves the privacy afforded here at Sugar Cove. I'll never tell.
